Kulu-Ya-Ku is the egg thief of World. It is a strange bird wyvern with arms strong enough to lift boulders, and it uses them as both a shield and a club. It is a fun early hunt, and it is back in Iceborne’s Master Rank too.
Out in the wild
You find it in the Ancient Forest and the Wildspire Waste, usually up to no good. It raids other monsters’ nests and runs off with the eggs. In a fight it likes to dig up a rock, hold it in front of itself and then smash or throw it at whatever is bothering it.
Where you meet it
It is the target of the Low Rank 2★ assignment Bird-Brained Bandit in the Ancient Forest, right after Great Jagras. It is also a quest target in High Rank and Master Rank, and it starred in the event quest Egg Lovers United.
How the fight goes
With a rock in hand it blocks your attacks, slams you with the boulder or throws it. The trick is to take that rock away from it fast and punish it while it is empty-handed.
Hunter’s tips
- Fire your slinger at it while it holds a rock to make it drop it.
- Keep hitting the rock with your weapon and it will break.
- Water is its big weakness. Fire, thunder, ice and dragon also work well.
- The head takes the most damage. Break the head and forearms for extra parts, and use Pitfall or Shock Traps to capture it.
