Mizutsune is a fox-like leviathan that dances through bubbles, and somehow manages to make a fight look elegant. The name says it: mizu is water, kitsune is fox.
Out in the wild
It lives mainly in the Scarlet Forest, and Tempered ones appear in the Ruins of Wyveria. Mizutsune eats fish. Its body secretes a soapy foam that it glides on with dance-like steps, and it traps prey in sticky bubbles before closing in. Different foams do different things, and some of them even help you.
Where you meet it
It arrived with free Title Update 1 on April 4, 2025. Its hunt is tied to Kanya and the Wudwuds’ fishing grounds, which a Mizutsune is threatening. You unlock it at HR 21 by speaking to Kanya at the Scarlet Forest base camp, after her fishing side mission. Mizutsune first appeared in Monster Hunter Generations as one of the Fated Four.
How the fight goes
Bubbles everywhere. The normal ones give you bubbleblight: you slip around and stay staggered longer when you get hit. Green bubbles heal you and red ones raise your attack, so pop the good ones on purpose. When it’s angry it switches to explosive, burning bubbles. Its signature move is a sweeping water jet from the mouth. It stands still while firing, so its sides are safe.
Hunter’s tips
- Fix bubbleblight right away with a Cleanser.
- After a water or bubble burst, the mouth is open for a Focus Strike.
- Head, claws and dorsal fin can be broken, and the tail can be cut off.
- Don’t bring water weapons. It doesn’t feel water at all.
