An artificial species created by an ancient civilization based on a presumed extinct, legendary monster called Arkveld.In-game description

The White Wraith. Guardian Arkveld is the monster the whole Wilds story chases: an ancient copy of a species everyone thought was gone, built by a lost civilisation and still hunting long after its makers died.

Out in the wild

Like all Guardians, it was made by the ancient Wyverian civilisation in Wyveria. It can’t reproduce, doesn’t need food and runs on Wyvern Milk, or Wylk. It breaks that rule in one way: it also drains other monsters to keep itself going. It’s the only Guardian modelled on an extinct species. Every other Guardian copies a monster that’s still alive. You’ll only meet it in the Ruins of Wyveria during its story fights.

Where you meet it

It’s the monster that attacked Nata’s people, the Keepers, and it drives the plot from the start. In Chapter 3 you first meet it in “The Faithful Keepers”, then fight it properly in “Broken Chains”. Spoiler: before it dies, it lays eggs without a mate, and that brings the natural Arkveld back from extinction. It’s a one-time hunt, so after the story you can only fight it again by joining someone else’s SOS flare. New to the series with Wilds.

How the fight goes

It has the chainblades and dragon blasts of the wild Arkveld, plus Guardian tricks. Its chain attacks leave Wylk crystals on the ground, and its wounds heal fast.

Hunter’s tips

  • Focus Strike wounds as soon as you see them, before they close.
  • Shoot the Wylk crystals with Slinger ammo to set off explosions.
  • Glowing chains mean a dragon blast is coming. Break them to knock it over.
  • Head, chainblades and tail can be broken, and the tail can be cut off. Bring Nulberries for dragonblight.
