Large wyverns found in the Oilwell Basin. Their highly developed carapaces repel attacks and emit powerful heat rays.In-game description

Gravios is a walking rock fortress with a heat beam. It’s been around since the very first Monster Hunter, and it still teaches the same lesson: chip away until something cracks.

Out in the wild

It lives among the lava of the Oilwell Basin, and Tempered ones roam the Ruins of Wyveria. Gravios eats rocks and minerals, and that diet builds its famously tough shell. It also has heat rays and several gases it can release from its body. The armour is hard, but once it breaks, the inside is surprisingly brittle. Gravios is the adult form of Basarios.

Where you meet it

High Rank only, and not part of the main story hunts.

How the fight goes

Its signature fire beam causes fireblight, and it can sweep the beam or fire it downward. The sleep gas is the scary part, because it can put the whole party to sleep. Getting through the armour takes patience, but repeated hits crack it. Those cracks, and the weak spots it shows during certain attacks, are your chances for Focus Strikes. Take it apart piece by piece.

Hunter’s tips

  • Break the chest and belly first. It opens a weak spot that stays open.
  • Head, belly, back, wings and legs can all be broken, and the tail can be cut off.
  • Sonic Bombs do nothing to it. Shock and Pitfall Traps work.
