A wyvern with chain-like wings. The flexible chainblades on their wings are used to mow down prey and absorb elemental energy.In-game description
Arkveld is the flagship monster of Wilds: a white flying wyvern with chain-blades growing out of its wings. The Guild’s own records listed it as extinct. The Forbidden Lands disagree.
Out in the wild
Arkveld isn’t tied to one region. In High Rank you can run into it in the Windward Plains, the Scarlet Forest, the Oilwell Basin, the Iceshard Cliffs and the Ruins of Wyveria. It feeds on elemental energy, soaking it up from the environment and from other monsters through those chainblades and turning it into dragon attacks. It goes looking for apex predators, and it wins. Every turf war it has, against Rey Dau, Uth Duna, Nu Udra, Rathalos, Gore Magala and even the Guardians, ends the same way.
Where you meet it
Story spoilers: the wild Arkveld steps in late in the High Rank story. In Chapter 6, “What Lies Ahead”, it has absorbed energy tainted by the Frenzy and goes berserk, and you have to bring it down. Afterwards it roams freely, with Tempered versions after the story and Arch-Tempered Arkveld as a permanent event quest from the first-anniversary update in February 2026. New to the series with Wilds.
How the fight goes
The more energy it soaks up, the nastier it gets. A full tank sends its chainblades sweeping across a much wider area. Its charged dragon blast covers a big area in front of it, so get close or dive to the side. It can also grab you, and any Slinger ammo breaks the hold.
Hunter’s tips
- Hit the chains while they glow. Breaking them makes them explode and knocks Arkveld down, and when both blow, it’s guaranteed to fall.
- The wings hold the organs that absorb energy. Steady elemental damage there overloads them and forces it out of its powered-up state.
- Head, chainblades and tail can be broken, and the tail can be cut off.
- Bring Nulberries or Blight Resistance for dragonblight.
