Lala Barina looks almost pretty: a red spider that moves in spins and pirouettes, with petals blooming on its back. Then the petals come off, and you can’t move your legs.
Out in the wild
This temnoceran lives in the Scarlet Forest, with Tempered ones in the Ruins of Wyveria. The petals aren’t petals at all. Lala Barina mixes a nerve-numbing fluid from its body with water to grow red bristles on its abdomen. When it’s agitated, it fans them open like a flower and sheds them as florets, and anything they touch starts to seize up. It likes to hang from above, in its nest and on its webbing.
Doshaguma beats it in their turf war, although the florets paralyse the beast for a while before it wins.
Where you meet it
Chapter 1, “Forest Findings”. In High Rank, a Tempered Lala Barina is the first Tempered monster of the story, fought in Chapter 4 alongside Guardian Fulgur Anjanath. New to the series with Wilds.
How the fight goes
A single floret won’t stop you, but a cloud of them will. Dodge the clusters, not the single petals. The stinger on its abdomen makes the back end a bad place to stand most of the time, but when it’s tired the stinger stays out and becomes a big, easy target.
Hunter’s tips
- If it’s hanging from the ceiling, keep hitting it. Enough damage brings it crashing down.
- The petals and claws can be broken.
- Wait for it to get tired before you go for the stinger.
