Leviathans that inhabit the Iceshard Cliffs. They have sharp, pincer-like tails and membranes on their necks that catch the wind to keep them aloft.In-game description
Hirabami is a leviathan that flies. Well, almost: a membrane on its neck catches the wind and keeps it floating, and it rarely comes to the Iceshard Cliffs alone.
Out in the wild
It lives in the Iceshard Cliffs and usually turns up in groups of three. Tempered ones also appear in the Ruins of Wyveria. Hirabami sleep together on the cliffs, clinging to walls or ceilings with their scales or foreclaws. Their sharp, pincer-like tails are their main weapon. They lose turf wars to both Arkveld and Blangonga. There’s a fun twist in Jin Dahaad’s arena too: three Hirabami sleep there, and if you wake them, they’ll attack Jin Dahaad for you.
Where you meet it
Chapter 2, “Hopes of Home”, right after Nerscylla. New to the series with Wilds.
How the fight goes
It spends most of the fight in the air and moves easily between ground and sky. It spits ice shards, and repeated hits freeze you up with frostblight. Those tail claws are the thing to watch, but a well-handled tail strike can be turned into a counter. Weapons with long reach and ranged weapons have an easier time here.
Hunter’s tips
- Break the neck membrane, or hit the wound there, to knock it out of the sky.
- Flash Pods also bring it down.
- After it spits ice, the mouth is open for a Focus Strike.
- Head and tail can be broken. The tail is the easiest part to reach while it floats.
