Quematrice is a brute wyvern with a tail that’s far too long for its body, and it uses that tail to set the plains on fire. Think of it as the opportunist of the Windward Plains: it would rather steal a meal than hunt one.
Out in the wild
You’ll find it on the Windward Plains, and Tempered ones turn up in the Ruins of Wyveria. Quematrice is mostly a scavenger. It follows bigger predators and eats the herbivore carcasses they leave behind, which means it often ends up in fights with smaller carnivores over the same meal. Its trick is a flammable fluid it spreads with its tail. The fluid turns to vapour fast, and one drag of the tail along the ground lights the whole lot.
It doesn’t stand a chance against Arkveld, which beats it in their turf war.

How the fight goes
The danger isn’t the first swing, it’s where the fuel has landed. Watch the ground: wherever that residue settles is where the fire will go when it ignites. Its big spinning ignite sweeps all the way round, but it leaves a gap to punish once it’s done.
Hunter’s tips
- Cut the tail. Quematrice uses it for both reach and ignition, so losing it weakens nearly everything it does.
- The head and neck are the weak spots, and the head can be broken.
- Step out of the residue before the ignite, not during it.
