The Oilwell Basin is a volcanic hole in the world: caves, oil pools and rock, with molten layers further down. Everything here burns, and that’s exactly why people live here.
Through the seasons
The basin is full of flammable oil, which hunters call oilsilt. Its Inclemency is the Firespring, when fire and flowing magma spread, oil ignites and the heat spikes. That heat drains your health, so Cool Drinks are worth packing.
Who lives here
Azuz, the Everforge, is a village of craftspeople built around a great forge that runs on the region’s heat and materials. Below it lie Wyverian-era machinery and ancient workshops, and deeper still is the Forgotten Machineworks, where the Elder Dragon Gogmazios was found.
The basin’s apex is Nu Udra, a burning cephalopod that has been known as “the Black Flame”. Rompopolo, Ajarakan, Gravios and Gypceros also call the basin home.
Worth knowing
- You reach the basin in Chapter 2. Rompopolo is the first hunt, and the chapter ends with Nu Udra.
- Watermoss is your friend here. It cools down overheated monsters and puts out burning parts.
- Keep Cool Drinks or a Chillmantle Bug handy for the heat.
