Nerscylla is a spider that dresses up in its prey. It hunts Gypceros, eats them, and wears their skin like a cloak. If that doesn’t set the mood for the Iceshard Cliffs, nothing will.
Out in the wild
This temnoceran lives in the Oilwell Basin and the Iceshard Cliffs, and every Nerscylla in the Ruins of Wyveria is Tempered. Its nest sits in Area 4 of the Iceshard Cliffs. There it hangs from webbing on the ceiling or hides under webs on the floor, waiting for something to walk in. It spins huge sticky webs across its territory and uses poison, sleep and webbing to corner prey before its pincer-like jaws finish the job. Dead Gypceros are often left hanging in those webs. It beats Gypceros in their turf war, which isn’t much of a surprise.
Where you meet it
Chapter 2, “Hopes of Home”, in Low Rank. In High Rank, a Frenzied Nerscylla is the first story hunt of Chapter 4. Nerscylla first appeared in Monster Hunter 4 (2013).
How the fight goes
It brings three status effects: poison from its jaws and back spikes, sleep from its stinger, and web shots that pin you in place. It also calls in hatchlings that swarm you from the sides. Its big rearing body slam is the one to watch, because dodging it gives you a long opening.
Hunter’s tips
- The Gypceros cloak flips its weaknesses. While the cloak is on, it shrugs off thunder and is weak to fire. Break the cloak and the body underneath is the other way round.
- After its poison jaw strike the jaws stay exposed, and a Focus Strike there knocks it down.
- The mantle, claws and stinger can be broken. The claws are very hard, so bring good sharpness.
- Pack Cleansers for webbing and Antidotes for poison.
