A mysterious elder dragon covered head to tail in a viscous black liquid that was found hibernating in an expanse beneath Azuz.In-game description
Gogmazios is an elder dragon dripping with black oil, with stolen weapons stuck in its body and an ancient siege engine on its back. It was found hibernating deep under Azuz.
Out in the wild
It raids weapon stockpiles for gunpowder, and over time various weapons have got stuck in its tar-like coating. The most remarkable is an ancient weapon nobody has seen in ages. Its oil behaves like gunpowder: heat it and it burns and explodes. You fight it in the Forgotten Machineworks, a sub-area of the Oilwell Basin.
Where you meet it
It arrived with Title Update 4 on December 16, 2025, as an eight-hunter fight: up to four players plus four Support Hunters. Gogmazios first appeared in Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate.
How the fight goes
It’s all about changing the state of its oil. Fire softens the coating from solid to liquid, and once it’s liquid or gas, Gogmazios is very weak to dragon. The fight has three phases. In the second the floor turns to Abyssal Lava, and in the third it takes to the air, where the Compact Anti-Wyvern Guns bring it down. Its ultimate attack is a huge oil explosion. Dragon damage weakens it, and you can survive it behind Fabius’s shield, by guarding or by getting to high ground.
Hunter’s tips
- Use fire first, then switch to dragon. Knowing which element to use when wins this fight.
- Break its back to knock loose the ancient siege weapon. Hook it up to the Wyrmway nexus points and fire it for huge damage.
- Break off weapon fragments for Mutated Armaments, which make Gogma Artian weapons.
- Hitting it while it flies breaks its posture and opens it up.
