Odogaron

Odogaron is pure aggression on four legs. This red, skinless-looking hound of the Rotten Vale never stops moving, and its claws open wounds that keep bleeding. In World it is the monster that teaches you to respect speed, and it returns in Iceborne’s Master Rank.

Out in the wild

Odogaron scours the Rotten Vale for carrion, but it also wanders up into the Coral Highlands. Anything can be a meal for it, monster or hunter. It holds its own against the big names around it. In turf wars it gets the better of Paolumu, and it trades blows with Legiana.

Where you meet it

You first hunt it in the 5-star Low Rank assignment Into the Bowels of the Vale. It returns in High Rank and in Iceborne’s Master Rank. Iceborne also adds a darker cousin, Ebony Odogaron.

How the fight goes

Expect pounces, bites, charges and tail sweeps, thrown at you fast. The claws make you bleed, and bleeding hurts you whenever you run, roll or attack. Once it’s enraged, it chains its attacks with almost no breaks in between. The trick is to stay calm, dodge, and punish it when it stops to catch its breath.

Hunter’s tips

• Bleeding wears off if you crouch for a moment, or you can cure it with Astera Jerky.
• Bleeding Resistance makes the whole fight a lot more relaxed.
• Ice is its biggest weakness, with Thunder a good backup. Paralysis works very well on it.
• Aim for the head and sever the tail. Traps work fine when you need it to hold still.
