Quick answer

Once you reach High Rank, go into a tent at any camp, choose Rest, and pick the environment (Plenty, Fallow or Inclemency) and the time of day. It costs 500 Guild Points per rest since Title Update 1, and you can't do it during a quest.

The Forbidden Lands are never the same twice. Every region cycles through its own seasons, the sun goes down, storms roll in, and the monsters change with it. Most of the time you just go with the flow. But when you need one particular monster or one particular flower, waiting around gets old fast. Here’s how to take control.

The three environments

Environment What it’s like
Fallow Lean times. Fewer resources, more predatory monsters and more turf wars.
Inclemency Storms or other extreme weather, different in every region. The stronger monsters come out, and the apexes are often only around now.
Plenty The good season. Lots of wildlife and resources everywhere.

When you can change it

Not during Low Rank. Through the first part of the story, time and environment are locked and you take the world as it comes. The option opens up once you reach High Rank.

How to change weather and time

  1. Go into the tent at a Base Camp or a Pop-up Camp.
  2. Open the grill menu and choose Rest.
  3. Pick an environment: No Change, Plenty, Fallow or Inclemency.
  4. Pick a time: No Change, Morning, Daytime, Evening or Nighttime.
  5. Confirm and pay.

You set the two separately, so you can change just the time, just the environment, or both. Either way you pay a single fee per rest.

It costs 500 Guild Points, not 300. At launch a rest cost 300 Guild Points. Title Update 1 (Ver.1.010) raised it to 500, and the same patch boosted Guild Points from Investigations by 10% to compensate. Plenty of older guides still say 300.

You can’t rest during a quest. Finish or return from it first. Some High Rank story sections also lock time and environment until you’ve moved on.

Why bother?

Time and environment decide which monsters show up and what you can gather. Some monsters and endemic life only appear at certain times or in certain environments. The two most common reasons to rest:

  • Spawning a specific monster. For example, since Title Update 3, Lagiacrus appears in the Scarlet Forest when you rest and choose Plenty.
  • Gathering something seasonal. Need a certain plant, bug or fish? Set the conditions instead of waiting for them.

Example: Nightflower Pollen

Nightflower Pollen comes from Ephemeral Blossoms in the Windward Plains and the Scarlet Forest, and only at night during a full moon. The game doesn’t show you the moon phase anywhere, but resting moves time forward, so you can keep resting into Nighttime until you land on a full moon.

Fishing has the same trick. The Gastronome Tuna at the Scarlet Forest’s Great Lake bites in the Morning during Plenty, so a quick rest saves you a long wait. See our fishing guide.

Title Update 2 made Material Retrieval requests work during Inclemency in Kunafa and Azuz, and let you check the Environment Overview from the Grand Hub.
