Hair, eyebrows and makeup can be changed for free at any tent. Changing your face, body, skin, gender or voice needs a Character Edit Voucher. Big change coming: from December 3, 2026 every player gets 10 free Character and 10 free Palico Edit Vouchers, and paid vouchers stop being sold.
Coming December 3, 2026: Capcom stops selling Character and Palico Edit Vouchers on all platforms. Every player gets 10 Character Edit Vouchers and 10 Palico Edit Vouchers for free, to use until the Ascendance expansion launches, and everyone who bought vouchers gets a free thank-you pendant set. When Ascendance arrives in 2027, editing your hunter and Palico becomes free, also for base-game owners who don’t buy the expansion. We’ll update this guide when it goes live.
Made your hunter at 2am on launch night and regret the nose? You’re not alone. Here’s what you can change for free, what needs a voucher, and how it all works right now.
What you can change for free
At any tent you can change your hair, eyebrows and makeup without spending anything:
- Open the tent at any camp.
- Choose Appearance Menu.
- Choose Change Appearance.
Your Palico’s free options are in the same menu. Your outfit is free to change too, through layered armor. See our layered armor guide.
What needs an Edit Voucher
- Face and body structure
- Physique and skin
- Gender, which is tied to the body preset
- Voice
A full re-edit isn’t done at the tent. You do it from the save data selection screen, with “Edit Character”.
Since Title Update 4, the save selection screen shows how many Character and Palico Edit Vouchers you own, and how many you can hold.
How to get Edit Vouchers today
- Every player gets one free Character Edit Voucher and one free Palico Edit Voucher, claimed from the in-game store.
- Extra vouchers are sold as paid packs: a Character Edit three-pack, a Palico Edit three-pack, and a combined Character and Palico three-pack.
- From December 3, 2026, the paid packs disappear and the 10 + 10 free vouchers arrive, as described at the top.
If you’re planning a big makeover, it’s worth waiting until December 3, 2026. You’ll get ten free edits instead of paying for one.
Beta characters and design codes
If you played the Open Beta, you could load that character’s look, for your hunter and your Palico, during character creation from the Design menu, as long as you were online. If you skipped that step, importing it later needs an Edit Voucher. Shareable character design codes also exist, so you can use another player’s design as a starting point.
