A bird wyvern that stockpiles water inside its body, fortified by the plant life it consumes. When threatened, it can expel a powerful stream from its mouth or tail.In-game description
Coral Pukei-Pukei trades poison for water. This colorful Iceborne subspecies carries a full water tank in its body and fires it out like a pressure washer. It’s flashy, quick and much more dangerous than it looks.
Out in the wild
It mainly lives in the Coral Highlands, and it also shows up in the coral region of the Guiding Lands. It drinks moisture out of the local plants and soft coral to stock up on water. That water is what powers its attacks, and it eats plants mid-hunt to refill.
Where you meet it
You meet it in Play Both Ends, an MR 2 story assignment in the Coral Highlands. The first report only mentions ‘blasts of water’, and that’s exactly what you get.
How the fight goes
It uses its long tongue like the original, but the real danger is the water. It spits water balls and fires powerful jets from both its mouth and tail, and those hits can give you Waterblight. When it feeds during the fight, its water attacks hit even harder.
Hunter’s tips
- Cut off the tail for extra materials, and watch both ends, since water comes from its mouth and its tail.
- Break the head and wings too for extra materials.
- Flash Pods help, and Nulberries clear Waterblight.
- Ice is its biggest weakness, with thunder next. Poison is also very effective.
