Quick answer

Decorations unlock after Nu Udra in Chapter 2 and drop as random rewards, with the best odds from Tempered High Rank hunts and saved investigations. The Melding Pot in Suja turns unwanted items into melding points, lets you meld specific size 1 jewels after the story and size 2 jewels at HR 100.

Decorations, or jewels, are where your build really comes together. They slot into your gear and add skills, and the good ones can take a long time to find. Here’s how they drop, how melding works, and where to put your effort.

When decorations start dropping

Your first decorations come after you beat Nu Udra, the Black Flame, at the end of Chapter 2. From then on they drop as random quest rewards and are appraised on the reward screen at the end of the hunt.

How drops work

Jewels drop as orbs that get appraised. The rarer tiers include Mystery, Glowing and Ancient orbs, and every orb is either a weapon type or an armor type.

  • High Rank hunts give the strongest decorations.
  • Tempered High Rank monsters have the best odds for the rarest ones.
  • Saved investigations can be played up to three times, and their reward list shows which decoration orbs are possible. High-rarity orbs often show up there.

When an investigation has a rare orb in its reward list, save it and run it the full three times.

Slots, sizes and where jewels fit

  • Slots and decorations come in sizes 1, 2 and 3.
  • A decoration fits a slot of the same size or bigger. A size 1 jewel fits in a size 3 slot, but not the other way round.
  • Weapon jewels only go in weapon slots, and armor jewels only go in armor slots.
  • Size 3 decorations can carry two skills, or several levels of one skill.

In High Rank, β armor has more or bigger slots, while α armor has more built-in skills. If you’re building around jewels, β pieces are usually the better canvas.

Ver. 1.020 added a “Remove All Decorations” option under Edit Decorations.

The Melding Pot

The Melding Pot is in Suja, the Peaks of Accord, and it’s run by Vio. It unlocks in Chapter 3. You feed it things you don’t need, like unwanted decorations, relics and Artian parts, monster materials and melding tickets, and get melding points back.

What you can meld, and when

Option Unlocks What it does
Wyverian Melding Chapter 3 Spend points on random orbs of a rarity and type you choose
Meld Relics Chapter 5 Meld Artian parts
Meld Decorations After Chapter 6, “What Lies Ahead” Pick a specific decoration, size 1 only at first
Size 2 decorations and specific Artian parts HR 100 Pick specific size 2 jewels and Artian weapon parts

Title Update 1 raised the point cost of Wyverian Melding and Meld Decorations, and made some items and rare decorations worth more points as melding material. Older guides quoting launch prices are out of date.

Gold Melding Tickets and Nightflower Pollen

Nightflower Pollen can be traded for Gold Melding Tickets, which you take to the Melding Pot for a batch of decorations. Gold Relic Tickets and Hard Armor Spheres are among the other trade options. You get the pollen from Ephemeral Blossoms in the Windward Plains, at night, during a full moon.

What to focus on

  1. Run Tempered High Rank investigations and save the ones with rare orbs in the reward list.
  2. Meld every decoration and material you won’t use. Points add up fast.
  3. Once Meld Decorations opens after the story, craft the size 1 jewels your build needs directly.
  4. Keep hunting at HR 100 and beyond, where specific size 2 jewels open up.
  5. Size 3 and two-skill jewels still come down to luck, from drops and random melding.
